What are some creative ways to get around a gate keeper?

Here are a few quick tips:
1. Know who you need to speak with AND how to pronounce their name prior to calling.
2. Use the automated phone menu to speak directly with a member of that department. For instance, push the extension for the operator, ask for the department you seek. Once you have a representative from that department, often times you can get help regarding the correct contact name and some background info regarding the purpose of your contacting that company.
3. Timing is very important--decision makers often get into the office early and leave late. Off hours phone calls often connects you directly with Top Management (thereby bypassing their gatekeeper)

<p>I just heard someone mention at a networking event that if you know the name of the person you are trying to make contact with, stop in with a gift for that person like a food basket or a small gift or card, ask the receptionist to deliver it to that person and leave, most of the time they will think you are a delivery service, and will take the offering directly to the person. If you send the gift with just a card, technically you are not soliciting but you will get the attention of the contact.<br />
